Our story

The designer is out of office

In 2019, our co-founder Matt was working as a product manager at GoPro when the marketing team urgently needed new visuals for an app feature. With the designer out of office, he spent hours manually tracing edges with a lasso tool. By the time he finished, one thing was clear: there had to be a better way.

Months later, those early frustrations turned into action. Matt partnered with Eliot Andres—an engineer who recognized the potential of AI early on—to build that better way. Together, they co-founded Photoroom.
