Product Fidelity

Product fidelity is how accurately an image represents the real product it is based on. In AI-generated and AI-edited product imagery, this means preserving details such as color, shape, proportions, materials, textures, patterns, logos, text, components, and product variation.

Product fidelity is not the same as realism. An image can look completely realistic while still changing the product, for example by distorting a logo, shifting a color, altering a material, simplifying a pattern, or removing a component. Realism asks whether the image looks believable; product fidelity asks whether it still shows the actual product being sold.

This is a common challenge in AI product photography. Photoroom’s Product Fidelity Benchmark evaluated 850 products across 3,400 generations from four leading image-editing models. Even the strongest base model preserved full product fidelity in only 29% of generations.

Photoroom addresses this challenge through its Fidelity Layer, which compares generated images with the original product, identifies and localizes fidelity issues, and uses that analysis to guide a corrected generation. Applied to the strongest base model in Photoroom’s benchmark, it increased the product-fidelity pass rate from 29.0% to 38.2%. When an image already works but a specific product detail is inaccurate,

AI Product Fixer can be used to correct the affected area using the original product image as reference, without regenerating the rest of the visual. For e‑commerce sellers, product fidelity ultimately means that the product shown in an AI-generated image remains the product being sold.
