The Image Editing API edits product photos with AI in a single request. Send an image and the edits you want: background removal, AI backgrounds, shadows, relighting, resizing and more. The edited image comes straight back. It's built for ecommerce teams editing anything from one photo to a full catalog.

Yes. One call can remove the background, add an AI shadow, set the padding, resize and export in the format you need. You set each edit as a parameter, so the same call works the same way on every image in your catalog.

Get an API key from the dashboard, then send a POST request with your image. This example creates a packshot on white with a soft shadow:

Yes, by running calls in parallel. The API edits one image per call and returns the result straight away. To process a catalog, send many calls at once from a worker pool. The default limit is 60 images a minute. Enterprise plans raise that limit for larger catalogs.

The Image Editing API is part of the Plus plan, at $0.10 per image. To test for free, use sandbox mode: add sandbox_ to the start of your API key. You get up to 1,000 free calls a month, and results are watermarked. See API pricing.

Input: PNG, JPEG or WEBP, up to 30 MB and 5,000 px on the longest side. Larger images are scaled down. Output: PNG by default, or JPEG, WEBP or AVIF. JPEG can't keep transparency, so set a background colour when you export to JPEG. Read the API documentation for more details.

Yes. Use the GET endpoint and pass the image's public URL as imageUrl. It takes the same parameters as the POST endpoint. Use POST for local files and GET for images already hosted online.

Every response includes an uncertainty score (x-uncertainty-score) from 0 (confident) to 1 (unsure). Use it to flag images for review automatically. Enterprise plans add Visual QA, which scores every output against your quality standard, and you only pay for images that pass.

Yes. Connect the Photoroom MCP in Claude under Settings > Connectors > Add custom connector, using https://mcp.photoroom.com/mcp. Then ask for edits in plain English. It works on paid Claude plans in Claude, Cowork and Claude Code, uses the same credits as the API, and edits up to 20 images per chat.
